- International energy groups

The implementation and expansion of existing sustainability standards are just as much a matter of course for us as outstanding service quality and reliability for our customers.
What drives us.
As a reliable and innovative energy trader, we play an active and sustainable role in shaping the energy market of the future. Our customers benefit from our strengths as a family business, our many years of experience and a team of resourceful and solution-oriented experts.
A strong team.
Ambrian Energy has been operating in Germany for more than half a century and now employs around 50 people in different roles, from blending and logistics to sales and marketing. We know that our employees are the real ‘fuel’ of our company’s success. With their passion and commitment, they contribute every day to bringing our shared vision of a sustainable energy future to life.
A reliable partner since 1972.
The secret to our success? Always keeping our finger on the pulse of the market and setting the right course at an early stage. We are a reliable supplier with a large product portfolio in the areas of fuels and biofuels. As an expert in fuel blending and a logistics partner, we are an indispensable link in the supply chain.
The founder in our minds. And the future in our sights.
Fortune favours a brave entrepreneur
Our company founder Dieter Vollkammer recognises the trend towards oil and alternative fuels and, as Managing Director of Handelsgesellschaft Westfalen, adds heating oil to the range alongside coal, lubricating oils, butane and propane.
HGM is founded
The company Handelsgesellschaft Mineralöl (HGM) is founded. It trades in fuels and heating oil in the cities of Bremen and Hamm. We handle petrol at the IVG depot. Our location in Bremen is supplied by our first inland waterway vessel.
Expansion of the business
We recognise the potential of Bremen as a location. As an established depositor in what was then the IVG/BP warehouse in Windhukstrasse, we took over the entire terminal in 1988.
Expansion of storage capacities
Storage capacities are growing rapidly. At the same time, new docking facilities are being built for larger seagoing vessels and inland barge and the entire site is being brought up to date with the latest environmental technology.
Setting the course for the future
Expansion of rail transport. To this end, we build a state-of-the-art tank wagon system and further expand the tank depot. We are already keeping an eye on the trend towards biofuels: by importing ETBE from Finland, we are quick to enter the biofuel business.
New capacities, new technology
In 2006, our depot grows again and we develop a new tank area with an additional 38,000 m³ of volume in the new tankfield, the storage capacity is doubled in a short space of time. With state-of-the-art technology and due regard to environmental regulations, we are becoming one of the most important industrial partners in northern Germany.
Moving into the export business with more tanks
Seagoing vessels now reach our depot almost every week. The newly built 60-tank area with a capacity of 38,000 m3 serves as the basis for exporting our products – and we are building another tank wagon facility for this purpose.
1.5 million t of fuel handled per year
A new loading and pipeline system is built, additional tank space is created and the large jetty is renovated. The modernisation significantly reduces loading and unloading times. We are now able to handle more than 1.5 million t each year.
Change of name to Ambrian Energy
The Hamburg-based company Ambrian Energy has been a majority-owned subsidiary of the HGM Group since early 2013. On 1 January 2024, Hamburg-based Ambrian Energy and the HGM Group were legally merged. As part of the standardisation of our external image, we have adopted the Ambrian brand: the former HGM is now rebranding itself under the umbrella brand Ambrian Energy – with a unified brand identity, pooled expertise and a unified external presence.
