HVO: Available pure or blended

In the context of global efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the search for non-fossil alternatives is becoming increasingly important. HVO is playing an ever-greater role in this regard. This is because HVO (hydrogenated vegetable oil) is a synthetic fuel produced from biogenic residual materials. This is made possible by a special hydrogenating finishing process in which the biogenic raw materials are treated with hydrogen at high pressure and high temperatures.

One of the key advantages of HVO is that it is a so-called ‘drop-in’ solution, meaning that it can be easily integrated into existing infrastructure (trucks and vessels, oil terminals and retail stations) and is suitable for a variety of transport sectors – from heavy-duty commercial vehicles and diesel cars to shipping and aviation. No special adaptations or investments in new technologies are required.
